thaitownexpress

the tinge of the valley girl accents roll off their tongue like ice cream. I can't get enough of it. Drake doesn't know it, but he's letting me type in his blog without any inhibition. I want to rag on SoCal so badly, but I am too preoccupied with a random chinese bird who is chatting me up.

Summertime Is Here!

San Diego

What a weekend in SoCal! Summertime has officially hit, and with it my first California sunburn. Why Didn't I put block on the back of my legs!? Suffering. Anyway, great to see Chantall and the Humphrey clan in San Diego! Congratulations Dana! SDSU will never be the same. Channy, I know you are hurting, but you have to be the only one in NYC with a sunburn! Wear it proudly! Hopefully it won't suffer the same fate as mine: burn, tan, peel.

On a side note, San Diego has to be the most beautiful city in the US.

Quiet.

Just Another Sunny Day..
I do enjoy and find it important to take time off from the hustle and bustle of life. Quiet time to be alone with your thoughts. This weekend I decided to do just that.

Well, I can hardly say it's quiet. I hear children playing, a couple laughing in bed (close quarters in these parts), some students drinking and playing their music , helicopters buzzing over head, and the droning television about the production of Brandy in Albi, France.

I digress.

I forget what I was saying. Oh yeah, quiet..it's good..when you get it. I got some quiet on the beach today. Booyakasha! I was reading Naaz's weblog about the flats in Bogota..S. Cali (along the ocean) is the same way...no need for A/C, heater etc..perfect weather all the time. I haven't seen a real cloud for almost a week.

Bon Voyage, Surya!

Bon Voyage!
Austin ChillinRelaxin'

I've been so busy lately, I didn't even get to post pictures from Austin. You guys were awesome (except for Mixmaster). Too bad I couldn't find any pics of Mike with his yellow cup of warm rum.

Anyway, I really just wanted to wish Surya the best of times with his short trip to India and TRAINEESHIP IN TURKIYE. Few things live up to "the hype", but my time in Istanbul certainly was the best summer of my life and the Turkish culture on the whole largely exceeded my wildest expectations. Nomadlife gives all the props to Cairo, but I'm here to point the destination arrow North;) I can only hope your experience is the same, bud. I can see you now, waking up to the Mediterranean, the sun beating down on you, islands in the distance, some Nalan playing in the background, a full plate of olives, domates, and feta...and sweating, oh yes, you will sweat.

First order of business when you exit Ataturk International. Round up the peeps, and head down to Tophane for Nargile. It's tradition.

Wit So Much Drama In Da LBC..

Destruction leads to a very rough road
But it also breeds creation
And earthquakes are to a girl's guitar
They're just another good vibration
And tidal waves couldn't save the world

Northwest Adventure..

Mt Saint Helens

Seattle SpaceNeedlePortland
I am back in Sunny Cali after a week in the Northwest. Portland was a great city and Seattle, from what I saw of it, was pretty alright, too. Wooo! What a trip it was! I actually saw Frances before she heads off to Rotterdam but..get this..no pictures..I blame her of course and a little townie pub she brought me to.."Kangeroo and Kiwi". Judging from those I've met from these two places of the world, I should have known better. While seeing Mt. St. Helens was awesome, I really enjoyed driving along the Oregon/Washington coast on the 101.

I loved the small towns we stumbled upon, the winding roads cutting through the greenest forests I've ever seen. It really made me happy at the recently overturned 'Roadless Area Conservation Rule' which prevented logging in 34 million protected acres of National Forest.wooo! Oh well, at least I got to see it;) as Jon Stewart said, "Run, Forest! Run!". Way to go, Prezzie.

Vacation, Anyone?

Kiro TV

Kiro TV

I don't know much about broadcasting, but I'd like to think that if I ever did go into such a field, I'd be working for Seattle's own Kiro TV. Kiro yaaaaaa! Imagine how much fun they are having in the Kiro Chopper:) "There's some tas gibi kizlar on the corner of 7th and Main, I'm gonna swoop in closer to get a better look."

Roger that..roger that.

Burned Out.

It happens. But not for long.

Live from Portland, OREGON

I don't know how it happened, but I'm here. Thank you Newport Beach, CA. Thank you Dave Drake. Thank you Vons for overstocking alcohol and selling your fifths for six dollars and forty-nine cents. So here I am traveling this time for business. Portland, Portland, Portland. Well, I can't lie..I do miss the sun, the beaches, and the general craziness of S. Cali. But, you can actually drive without being stuck in a traffic jam! Nice! And, there is public transportation (this city even has bikes that are free to use..just pick them up and leave them when you don't want them anymore), clean air, and and and a MYRIAD of microbrewies surrounding my hotel in downtown Portland. And, with a Gov't per diem, that spells F-U-N. I do notice a lot of what Mr. Lebowski calls "bums" in the streets, and as Kristie Ko refers to it, it's quite "crunchy" around here..meaning granola, meaning time tunnel, meaning a lot of people here haven't moved out of the 60s..hippies:) all of them!! As far as the sessions are going for work, I am yet again happy to report that I am the youngest person attending by at least a decade or two. Out of control.
