JNB
I also wanted to state for the record that JoBurg airport is the worst airport in the history of bad airports--yes it even beats LAX and the old part of DTW:)..first off, the 20kg limit on all bags, expect to pay more at the check-in. Secondly, I've been warned by multiple people not to put anything of value in your checked luggage, as pilfering is a major problem at that hub. I really didn't have anything of value, but a lot of people were wrapping their luggage in plastic in preparation for JNB..okay, no biggie, "me still no care one rass", but what really set me off was when I purchased 2 litres of Amarula at their Duty-Free shop only to get to the gate and have it confiscated! "No liquids on board" (I found out that it doesn't apply to flight attendants). Oh, I wanted to fight, for my right..but after about 15 minutes of arguing I realized it wasn't their fault, but probably some new regulation put into place by my own Gov't...Still, why would they sell it to me then?
I was so upset I decided to extract the exact amount of money I lost at JNB and have Delta incur those charges via copious amounts of free vino..

Anyway, consider yourself warned if you fly through JoBurg! Cheers!

clearly, you haven't been to Murtala Mohammed International in Lagos.
"During the late 1980s and 1990s, the international terminal had a reputation as a dangerous airport. From 1992 through 2000, the US Federal Aviation Administration posted warning signs in all US international airports advising travelers that security conditions at LOS did not meet ICAO minimum standards. In 1993 the FAA suspended air service between Lagos and the United States. During this period, security at LOS continued to be a serious problem. Travellers arriving in Lagos were harassed both inside and outside of the airport terminal by criminals."
It is still possible to get your passport stamp saying you have left the country while sitting at the cafe outside enjoying some fufu and star beer for the cost of whatever the current bargain price is.

S'up Drakie Drake !!
Hmmm, I can't remember JNB being that bad. But then again, I was a Flight Attendant when I was there :-p Mwahaha
Right you were though for getting your money's worth of free vino!
Really interesting last posts ... my most memorable flight to Africa so far would probably be the one to Cameroon with the stopover in Malabo
5:40 PM
hehe we should start a tour company...fly to all the worst's worst airports..start off w/ becoming bored to death in LAX, fly to LOS and get robbed, continue down to JNB and lose all your luggage, lose half of the plane in SDA due to an IED and then crash land in Indonesia:)
5:45 PM
Carissa, please tell me which airline you worked for so I can start flying them...I always seem to fly on these airlines that have these old cranky women who are in desperate need of mile-high membership..
5:48 PM
whoops, just remembered swiss airways..duh!
5:57 PM
LOL No worries :-)
Well, Swissair doesn't exist anymore, so good luck finding an airline with younger FA's ... haha.
Alitalia might have the gorgeous and still young damsells, but they weren't exactly nice, argh. But I guess a guy wouldn't be bothered with that, would he? :-p
6:03 PM
well, personality goes along way..but on a flight, yeah, you just need something to distract you from monotony of sitting in one place..
6:11 PM
LOL And I always thought the inflight entertainment system did the job ...
But I get your point ;)

Haha, they have the same retarded policy in China (yes Fang, your country has a RETARDED policy). You can't bring a bottle of alcohol onto the plane... and during ID inspection they x-ray your bags and if you have booze for check in they will confiscate it. But they will sell you the booze before you get on the plane knowing it will be confiscated. I had my own little experience like that too. We're not in Kansas anymore.
3:51 AM
Devrim, oh yeah? Well I thought airport policies couldn't get more retarded than that too but I was wrong. In China at least they let you bring on water or other liquids as long as they are sure it's not alcohol after they open the bottle and test it. But departing from all EU airports you can't bring on ANY liquid and they made you put your hand cream in a little transparent plastic bag and they cannot be more than 100ml. You know vhy? Because they freaked out on an "apparent" plot to set off bombs on a plane flying to the UNITED STATES.
Surprised? Well then here's a little tip for you POS, so that next time in Europe you'll be more prepared and won't cry when they won't let you bring sunscreen with you for your peeling forehead. You are welcome.
Drake, you haven't been to Moscow Airport, have you?
3:24 PM
i have not been to moscow, fang. but the liquid thing, albeit crazy, at LEAST has some sort of warning..meaning they arent selling the sunblock in one store and taking it 100 meters away..the US has crazy policies, but they at least give a heads up to passengers..
i cant believe we live in an age where bringing mass quantities of booze abroad flights is prohibited...just injustice;)
3:37 PM
Oh and you know what's more retarded here? They can still sell you alcohol in the duty free shops after security check and let you bring them on the plane... I'm so confused.
3:37 PM
well regardless of the policy, if they sell the booze, you should be able to bring it on board, or put it in the cockpit for the pilots...but dont sell it if you can't bring it to your destination!
i was so tempted to start jugging but i needed to get on that flight..
8:27 PM
Drake dude,
you have obviously been flying all the wrong airlines. Take Kenya Airways...last i checked you cant go too wrong on the flight attendants...
10:27 PM
Ha!, I took Kenyan Airways from Nairobi to Joburg..Jungle fever. I just have to start lobbying lawmakers in washington to allow KA to start domestic flights in the US:)
