I'm with It, I'm hip...
Well, don't look at me like I'm friggin' Frankenstein! After attending a new members session for AIESEC GT, a wild house party on Saturday, and a Super Bowl gathering on Sunday, this old alum was reindoctrinated into the LC lifestyle. While years, faces, and names change, I'm glad to report that the AIESEC spirit lives on..Kudos to AIESEC GT for welcoming me in and I look forward to future gatherings!
The fun and festivities came to an abrupt end this morning at 8am when I found myself at "Step 1" of the CDC's immunization regime for international travers. I'm heading over to do some work in Africa for the last half of March, mainly focusing on our GAP. The shots actually weren't that bad and I got a cool travel kit with an lots of gadgets and medicine...ha! For the amount of stuff they gave me you'd think I was living over there for a year!

Wus, I'm still pissed off about the superbowl... hope you get an infection from one of those needles.
Try eating street food, it's the best way to expose yourself to the micro organisms, and drink a glass of tap water too while you are at it... you don't need no stikin shots.

yep, and i asked the nurse, "i know a guy who says it's good to get your body acclimated to the local surroundings by introducing yourself to a little bit of tap water, etc.
She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "that's the dumbest thing I've heard in my entire life!"
I said, "No, Ma'am, that's just Devrim Leonard."
She was like, "Oh, the Rat who can't cry? I know who you're talking about."

I'll be crying tears of joy at seeing you and your immunization pumped body getting sick again next time we travel.

You have no idea how much I dwelt on this comment of yours (and the nurse) the past week while on the road. I was so pissed off i almost started smoking.
You go back to that nurse and ask her how many countries she's visited, and let her establish some credibility before she spews off some townie wisdom that she memorized in a text book. Then tell her that the modern society is trying to keep people living in fear of the unknown... so stay quivering in your comfort zone and keep consuming, then all will be well.
She's a sales person and is trying to sell you her product, immunization, of course you my pos are a willing sucka.
I'm still so pissed off right now!

I'm glad you've started smoking at the age of 30. I will tell her this in hopes she will change her impression of you. You're right though, after visiting 45 countries you are no longer susceptible to yellow fever or malaria. POS, I will stay in my comfort zone--quivering, but it won't be from the water!
And I think the whole fear and consumption in terms of vaccinations is spot on! Maybe we can start a company to help curb growing consumerism in Africa:)

glad to hear you were stranded Dunhuang for 3 days and are sick..perhaps a vaccination would have prevented that?
